Everything you need to know about reducing carbon: including offsetting, carbon neutrality and Net Zero

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Awards, and to celebrate the occasion we are launching a full programme of free online events for you and your team to join.

We are planning a week-long series of webinars to engage organisations with different environmental initiatives to inspire, influence and share best practice. The programme will culminate in the iiE Awards on International Clean Air Day (Thursday 8th October).

Hear from David Knight, Environmental Consultant at Investors in the Environment (iiE), as he covers an introduction to working out your organisation’s carbon footprint, and discusses the importance of on-site reduction to minimise emissions.

David joined iiE in 2015. Carrying out resource efficiency audits with businesses, he identifies opportunities to implement behavioural change, technology improvements, and the addition of renewables, to improve resource efficiency and help organisations save money and become more sustainable.

You can also hear from Forest Carbon Co-Founder and Director Stephen Prior. He believes that having a credible plan to reduce CO2 emissions is not only critical in tackling climate change, but is also central to a business’s reputation. Offsetting should be part of the picture: not only does it allow businesses to reduce emissions, it also opens up the opportunity to support a range of sustainability projects that add to an organisation’s identity.

Stephen, a former secondary school headmaster in Zimbabwe, discovered a second vocation through his Durham University Business School MBA dissertation (a study of environmental economics and how carbon markets could work in the UK). His findings – presented to a side conference at the 2005 UN Climate Change Conference in Montreal – convinced him of the importance of woodlands in the effort to deal with climate change and environmental degradation, and of the potential for carbon funded woodland creation in the UK.

Since then Forest Carbon has gone on to plant nearly 200 new UK woodlands, totalling 10 million trees, working with businesses of all sizes looking to mitigate their CO2 emissions. Stephen was one of the architects of the UK Woodland Carbon Code – the government’s quality assurance standard – and is still a member of the Code’s Advisory Board. Stephen has also advised the government on the development of the parallel Peatland Code and is a member of its Technical Advisory Board.
