Volunteers’ week is a chance for employers to get involved and say thank you for the help provided by countless volunteers across the UK. It also raises awareness of volunteering and the diverse range of roles that are available.

These people give up their valuable time to help make a difference, and their time does have a value; it’s worth $25.43 (£20.66) an hour, according to The Independent Sector (an organisation that gathers charitable statistics).

There are many benefits to volunteering for both the business and the individual. There are the obvious health benefits to the volunteer, such as the “feel good factor,” as well as improved employment prospects and improved self-esteem, and it also helps to strengthen communities. But also there are many benefits to the employer; potential employees are more likely to look favourably on a company that recruits volunteers and according to the CMI, 70% of FTSE 100 companies have some form of volunteering programme in place.

Volunteer week will run from the 1st till the 7th June 2020, and is organised by the NCVO, an organisation that champions the voluntary sector.
