Healthworks Newcastle
NewcastleHealthworks is one of the leading North East charities working with disadvantaged local communities to tackle health inequalities and improve their health and wellbeing through social prescribing. Based in Newcastle, but working across the region, for over 25 years, our patron is Professor Marmot. We work in partnership with NHS, Local authority colleagues and communities in many sectors to devise cost effective solutions that secure sustainable health impacts for many conditions that inhibit quality of life.
We deliver behaviour change interventions for obesity, smoking and diabetes; breastfeeding and antenatal support; cardiac rehab; rehab for people with chronic joint pain; cancer awareness; reducing falls and increasing exercise for older people. In terms of supporting NHS hospital activity, we have been working closely with Trusts ( including Newcastle) to develop both perioperative/prehab/rehab for a range of conditions and additional specific, targeted interventions for our most disadvantaged communities, (however defined), who are in most need as part of active recovery support.
We currently deliver from two premises: The Health Resource Centre (on Adelaide Terrace, Benwell) and The Lemington Centre. We are looking at ways of increasing our reach and developing the range of services we can deliver to our most disadvantaged communities and those with long term conditions.
