Leaders in sustainability celebrated at iiE Awards 2023
Thursday 23rd November marked the iiE Awards 2023 and the celebration of success in sustainable business. Organisations across the UK were recognised for creating positive and long-lasting change in their working practices to help tackle climate change and waste. These included those just starting out in sustainability all the way to those going above and beyond.
The online event also featured talks from renowned leaders in sustainability, Lucy Shea, Chief Executive Officer of Futerra, and Saasha Celestial-One, Chief Operating Officer and Cofounder of Olio. They discussed the importance of behaviour change and incorporating climate values into our lives, from work to home. Lucy shared with us Futerra’s tips on how to encourage customers to engage with your organisation’s climate action, and Saasha spoke on her own journey to combat food waste and how initial small-scale actions can trigger greater change.
This year saw over 100 new organisations seeking out iiE accreditation due to iiE success stories alongside market demands on businesses to make the net-zero transition. Current members have gone above and beyond despite difficult economic challenges, with approximately a quarter of this year’s submitted accreditations achieving Green, the highest iiE award level. iiE Members achieved 8.7k tCO2e of carbon savings and saved enough natural gas to heat almost 2,000 3-bedroom homes for a year, demonstrating how carbon management can also cut costs.
Antony Gough, the new National Lead of iiE, said, “It’s been another excellent year for the Investors in Environment Scheme, with total membership continuing to grow and over 130 members successfully achieving either Bronze, Silver or Green accreditation. Our members have worked hard to understand and benchmark their environmental impacts and achieved significant success in terms of reducing their ecological footprint. It’s been a privilege for the iiE team to support our members on their journey, and we’re delighted to recognise their efforts at the iiE Awards.”
Thank you to the organisations that sponsored and supported this year’s iiE Awards: including Roythornes Solicitors, Green Energy Switch, Cambridge and Counties Bank, Hunt & Coombs Solicitors, Ecotricity, Compare the Market, Redwood Bank, Elanco, MWI Animal Health and Waterwise.
This year’s judging panel brought a wealth of experience to undertake the difficult job of choosing the winning entries from an impressive lineup; thank you to James Hand, Co-Founder of Giki, Virginia Cinquemani, Founder of Green Gorilla Consulting, Brigette Reid, Director of Green Arch Consulting, Stuart Dawks, Chief Executive of PECT, Danielle Heward, Founder of Optimo Business Consulting and Janna Tweed, Head of Client Engagement and Education at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership.
